There are complete communication applications like WhatsApp, Telegram and Facebook Messenger, with a variety of features and features such as games, location sharing, stickers, and even sending payments. Then there’s the “Direct Messaging” category, which is more like a complementary messaging platform for social networks like Instagram, Twitter and Tumblr.

Because of the lack of functionality, direct messaging is not something you want to use exclusively, but Instagram is a bit tolerable by introducing GIF support on Instagram DM.

The Instagram app is currently being updated with GIPHY support to find and send GIFs, which will be available in the next few days. I don’t currently see the features enabled on the Galaxy S9+ I am using. It seems that the update will be rolled out on the server side of iOS and Android, so having the latest version of the app may not be enough.
